Field Trip FAQs

Prior to Arrival

Please allow enough time before your event to take students to a park or rest area restroom before coming to our location. There will be one portable restroom available on site for emergency use. (See listed options below.)

Chaperones / Adult Helpers

Please remind your adults that we do not allow babies or toddlers on our field trips as they can be disruptive. Our expectation is that all chaperones / adult helpers be fully present and engaged with their group, follow directions and keep track of their students so everyone has the most enjoyable experience possible. We ask that you have your students preassigned to the adults that are responsible for them prior to arrival.

Arrival

Please follow directions on the included map, GPS will not deliver you to the correct entrance.

For safety reasons:

  1. Please follow parking lot directions on the included map and enter from HWY 503.
  2. Cars need to park in the car area, Buses in the bus area, follow staff directions.
  3. Please stay in buses and cars until greeted by a staff member and given directions.

Dress

Casual, warm and comfortable clothing is advised. Our buildings are not temperature controlled, please remind your group to dress weather appropriate and have appropriate shoes for walking on gravel paths. Many visitors feel that a coat is a “must” even on a warm day.

Please do not allow students to bring bags or backpacks with them into the buildings.

Picture Taking

We do not permit videotaping, photography or audio recordings during our events, with the exception of still photography in the museum for personal use ONLY.

Preparing the Students

  • Do not bring anyone who is feeling unwell or experiencing fever, chills, sweats, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, or runny nose.
  • Respectful Behavior. Although presented as an educational program, everything we share are important hereditary rights and privileges of the Lelooska Family. When you are invited to enter our grounds you are thought of as guests and witnesses. Please remind students to be respectful and attentive, and quiet during presentations.
  • Ceremonial House. The Ceremonial House has a dirt floor and benches for seating. If your event is inside our Ceremonial House, please do not allow anyone to walk on the benches or play in the dirt floor.
  • Use Pathways. Delicate native plants have replaced the ivy along our paths and banks. Please protect them by helping students to stay on designated gravel pathways.
  • Totem Poles & Canoe. Please remind students that there is NO climbing on or touching any of the totem poles on our grounds or in our buildings or the canoe in our museum.
  • Gathering Hall & Gift Shop. The rest of our museum collection is located in our Gathering Hall, as well as artist work areas. Please make sure to visit and share with your students. We have a small Gift Shop area in which students may purchase small items. We accept cash, check, and credit cards.

Lunch

We do not have facilities for lunch or picnics. Food and drinks are not allowed inside the buildings. Many groups choose to picnic at nearby Merwin Park, Horseshoe Park in Woodland, or Marine Park in Kalama. If you choose to go to Merwin Park for lunch it is essential that you follow the directions on the map so that your bus can back into our field and safely turn down to Merwin Park.
