Explore how the forms and elements of Northwest Coast art come together to form designs that represent hereditary crests. You will learn basic forms and begin to work on the layout of designs through drawing and the creation of templates. This class is valuable for those interested in carving, painting, or button blankets.

Tying it all Together: Making Cordage from Nature
Saturday, August 16, 2025 11am-3pm
Historically the native people tied much of their lives together with handmade string and rope.
Visit a fur trade camp to watch a dogbane cordage demonstration.
See samples of cordage made from other wild plants available in the area.
Then try your hand at using a rope making machine to learn how ropes were made by the early fur traders to trade with the native peoples.
This is a * FREE FAMILY FUN! *
Stay for an hour or Stay for the day!

Visitors will explore the variety of Native American cradleboards in the museum collection.
An interpreter will be available to discuss the different materials and methods used in the construction of each cradleboard style on display.
At the end of the tour, visitors will be invited to create a miniature Plateau style cradleboard model to take home.
This is a * FREE FAMILY FUN! *

Do you love to sew by hand, are you wanting to learn more and have a few hours to spare? Join Lelooska family members and volunteers to help sew/mend button blankets with us, work on new blankets, or work on your own.

Let’s make a trade – Where two cultures meet.

Visit the Fur Trade Camp in our Outdoor Education Area where interpreters will share some of the trade items exchanged with the Native Peoples for beaver pelts. Learn trade sign language used by the fur traders and Native Peoples to communicate. More details coming soon!

Photo Scan Days Tuesday July 16, 2-6pm, Thursday August 15, 5-7pm ~ Bring up to 10 old photos you would like to have digitized.

Painted Art on Rawhide – Saturday, July 27, 2024 11 am to 3 pm
- Explore the Lelooska Museum and learn about the many uses of rawhide by Native Peoples.
- View a special exhibit of parfleches from our collection.
- Visit the fur trade camp in our outdoor education area where interpreters will demonstrate the paint making process.
- Try making pigment from rocks to use as paint. There will be a demonstration of painting a rawhide parfleche.
- Participants will have a chance to color, cut and fold your own miniature paper parfleche to take home.
